Burglaries in vacation vehicles are not annoying because of the caused damages, they can become a threat to life and limb if someone is sleeping in the vehicle. According to european police authorities, the door is the first target for a burgler. Sensible protection is provided by an alarm system that sets off an alert, before the door is forced open. The deliberately simple designed but effective alarm system CaraWarn consists of an alarm box for the sleeping area and an infra-red sensor and a power-LED (both tethered), which are installed underneath the door, that is to be secured. The signal coming from the sensor is intelligently evaluated – so in case of aperson or animal just passing by the door, nothing happens. If someone is approaching and stopping about 1 m away from the front of the door, the system reacts with very intensely flashing lights. If the person go away again, nothing elese happens. Only in other case alarm is given inside the vehicle to wake up the occupants. The risk for the burgler is not calculable, in most cases the burglary is aborted. Due to its simple construction, the system is not only easy to install – false alarms are nearly impossible.
